Negative Points

  • Limited Channels
  • Clear TV key will only pick up channels that are broadcasted over-the-air, meaning you are only limited to those channels that are available in your local area. Channels like hbo, tnt, cnn, espn and many other premium cable channels will not be available to you, and you will have to spend some money in order to be able to view them.

  • Needs A Close Tower
  • In order for the antenna to get a clear and powerful signal, you need to be within 25 miles of a broadcast tower. If the tower is further than that, you may get a distorted signal that may lead to getting fewer channels or poor quality picture.

  • May Require Tuner
  • There is a fine print at the bottom of the packaging that says you may require a TV with an astc tuner built-in for the antenna to work. This means, if you have an old TV ( made before 2007 ), you may need to purchase an astc tuner box just for the product to work, which may be costly.

  • May Be Useless
  • On the other hand, if your TV already has an astc tuner built-in, then you don’t need the Clear TV Key, since your TV already has the capability to receive digital television channels. This is most likely true for TVs made in 2007 and above that are widely available today.

Critical Advice

Due to Clear TV Key being stationary, it might be difficult to get a clean reception compared to the standard digital antennas that you can move around to identify the best spot for all channels. As such, there is a high chance that it may perform poorly. You may just end up replacing it with a normal one instead or have to move your TV around for a good signal.

It has 16 reviews on Amazon with an overwhelming 81 percent of reviews giving it 1 out of 5 stars, meaning it didn’t work as advertised for most of the people who tried it. Only one positive review said they got it to work, with up to 78 channels, but they had to place their TV near a window just to get it to pick the channels. The user also sited that being close to a broadcast tower may have helped their case a little too. On the negative side of things, users said that the antenna didn’t pick up any channels at all or only picked up a hand full of channels when they got it to work.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  • Winegard Flatware Air
  • This digital antenna has better reviews online than the Clear TV Key, making it the best alternative to receiving free HD TV signals. It has an impressive range of 60 miles plus and is just as powerful as standard digital antennas, while also being compact as compared to these bigger antennas.

  • Standard Digital Antennas
  • If the clear TV doesn’t work for you, then you might want to stick to the standard digital antennas that you can find at the local stores in your area. These have a better reputation for working, while also having the added advantage of being moved around so that you can get the best possible reception for all channels.
